1. What we collect

What you give us directly

• Your name, email, phone number, and shipping address when you purchase a film or request our guide.
• Payment details, which are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
• The footage, audio, and photographs your family records or uploads through the L36 app.
• Pre-interview context you choose to share — names, relationships, milestones, and topics you'd like covered — so our interview coach can ask better questions.
• Anything you write to us by email, in the app, or in feedback and testimonials you agree to share.

What we collect automatically

• Basic technical information when you use the app or website: device type, browser, IP address, and how the app is performing. We use this to keep uploads working and to fix problems.
• We do not run advertising trackers on our website.

Information about other people

Your film will include family members, sometimes children. By recording someone and uploading that footage, you confirm you have their permission (or, for a minor, a parent or guardian's permission) to include them in your film.

2. How we use your information

• To make your film: receiving your footage, transcribing it, organizing it, editing it, and delivering it.
• To ship your filming kit and communicate with you about your project.
• To store your finished film and source material in your family archive (see Section 5).
• To improve the app and our editorial process.
• To send you occasional emails about L36 Stories. You can unsubscribe at any time; project-related messages will continue while your film is in progress.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent or trade it. We do not use your footage in our marketing without your written permission.

3. How we use artificial intelligence

AI is part of how we work, and you should know exactly where.

Ellie, our interview coach

When you record, an AI coach in the app suggests questions and follow-ups in real time. It uses the pre-interview context you provide and what is being said in the moment. Ellie does not make editorial decisions about your film.

Transcription

Every interview is transcribed by an AI transcription service so our editors can search and work with your words. The transcript is part of your project and is delivered to the editor with your footage.

Editorial preparation

AI tools help our team review footage before a human edits it: identifying the moments where someone laughs, pauses, or gets emotional; mapping which photographs relate to which stories; and organizing the material into an initial structure for the editor. This is preparation, not the film itself.

A human makes the film

Every L36 film is cut, shaped, and finished by a professional editor. AI proposes; a person decides. No film is delivered to you without a human editor having made the editorial calls and reviewed the final cut.

What we don't do with AI

We do not use your footage, voice, photographs, or transcripts to train AI models. We do not generate synthetic footage, cloned voices, or invented dialogue of you or your family. The AI services we use process your material to do a specific job and are contractually prohibited from using it to train their own models.

4. Who we share your information with

We share your information only with the people and services needed to make your film. All of them are bound by contract to protect it and to use it only for our work.

• Editors. Our finishing editors, some of whom are independent contractors, receive your footage, photographs, and transcripts to make your film. They are under confidentiality agreements.
• Storage and infrastructure. Your material is stored with cloud providers we use for secure file storage, our application database, and editor delivery.
• AI service providers. As described in Section 3: transcription, speech analysis, and editorial-preparation services.
• Payments and shipping. Stripe processes payments. Our shipping carrier receives your name and address to deliver your kit.
• Email. Our email provider sends project updates and, if you've opted in, occasional news.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of a person. We do not share your footage or stories with anyone outside this list without your written consent.

5. Your family archive and how long we keep things

Your finished film and the source material behind it are kept in your family archive so you can return to them and, if you wish, add to them in future projects. We keep this material for as long as you have an account with us.

If you'd like your source material deleted after delivery, tell us and we will delete it, keeping only your finished film unless you ask us to delete that too. If you close your account, we delete your material within 30 days, except where we are required to keep records for tax or legal reasons.

6. Your choices and rights

You can, at any time:

• Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct something.
• Ask us to delete your footage, photographs, transcripts, or account.
• Withdraw consent for marketing emails.
• Ask us not to use any specific piece of footage or any photograph in your film.

Email info@l36.io. We'll respond within 30 days. If you live in a state or country with specific privacy laws (for example, California, or the EU/UK), you have the rights those laws provide, and we will honor them.

7. Children

Children often appear in family films, and we're careful with their material. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13 through our app or website. Footage of children is uploaded by a parent or guardian, who is responsible for consenting on the child's behalf.

8. Security

Your material is stored encrypted, in transit and at rest, with access limited to the people working on your project. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your footage the way we'd want our own family's treated.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information in a meaningful way, we'll email you before the change takes effect and update the date at the top of this page.
