Important Work, Seen Up Close

We make cinematic films about leaders whose work holds something together — a company, a clinic, a classroom, a community. So the people deciding whether to trust you can see who you are first.

Who we look for

The 36 are everywhere. Some of them run businesses.

L36 takes its name from an old tradition: in every generation there are thirty-six people whose quiet goodness holds the world together. We've come to believe a few of them are leading the organizations you already rely on. The physician who still calls patients at night. The founder who kept the doors open through the hard year. The principal who runs a school like a family. Those are the stories we look for, and the films we make best.

Founders and owners.

The experience that led you here. The problem you cared enough to solve. The choices that still guide the business you're building.

Teams and craftspeople.

The people doing the work. Their skill, their pride and the care they bring to the details others may never see.

Communities and relationships.

The relationships your organization has built and the people whose lives intersect with its work.

Sometimes the clearest way to introduce a business is to spend time with one person who helps define it.

Why this matters to a business

Give people a reason to feel connected to your work.

Choosing a business often means choosing people: whose judgment to rely on, whose care to accept, whose work to bring into your life. A thoughtful film gives that decision more context. It lets people see the experiences behind your purpose and the way your values show up in practice.

Meet the person.

The experiences, relationships and turning points that shaped how you approach your work.

See the care.

The attention, effort and everyday decisions that are difficult to communicate in a list of services.

Understand what matters.

The commitments that guide your business, made visible through real stories and actions.

Our process

A considered process. A human conversation.

1

Discover the story.

We begin with the person, the audience and the purpose of the film. Together, we identify the experiences, relationships and moments worth exploring.

2

Film where the work happens.

We prepare the conversation and capture the person in the places that give their story context, with professional cinematography, lighting and sound.

3

Shape a film you can share.

We bring the interviews, everyday moments and relevant photographs or archive together through editing, color and sound. The finished film and any shorter versions are planned around how you'll use them.

A meaningful introduction, wherever people meet your business.

Your film can introduce your organization on its website, give a prospective customer context before a conversation, help future employees understand the team or bring the human side of your work into an email or social campaign. We agree on the main film, shorter edits and intended uses when we scope the project.

The heart of L36

The people who hold our worlds steady.

L36 is inspired by a tradition about thirty-six people whose quiet goodness helps sustain the world. It invites us to look more closely at the people around us: the ones who care, teach, build and keep showing up.

Founded by physician and filmmaker Steven Pearce, L36 brings that curiosity to stories about families, communities and the people behind meaningful work. We believe paying close attention to a person can change how we see them. Our films begin with that attention.

Every month we also make a short film about someone whose quiet goodness holds their family or community together, as our gift. Know someone? Nominate them for The 36.

Practical questions

Before we begin.

Do we need a script?

We help you prepare and shape the story through conversation. You bring your experience; we help you find a natural way to share it.

What will we receive?

We scope the main film and any shorter versions around your audience and intended uses. Length, deliverables and production schedule are agreed in your proposal.

What does a project cost?

The scope depends on the story, locations, filming and finished deliverables. Start with a conversation so we can understand the project and put together a clear proposal.

Who should your audience get to know?

Tell us about the person, the work and the people you want to reach. We'll explore the story with you.
