From the Founder
I have loved film for as long as I can remember. Not just watching it — the thing itself. The way a cut can make you feel something a sentence can't. The way light on a face at the right moment says more than a page of dialogue. I built a career around that love, and it eventually carried me all the way to a film I'm deeply proud of — LOVE | EVOL(ved), which found its way to PBS and to audiences I never imagined when we started shooting.
But the moment that led to L36 was smaller than any of that.
One afternoon, I asked my dad to go through his childhood pictures with me, and I set up a camera. I thought we'd get a few nice memories. Instead, I was blown away by the stories that emerged — easily, naturally, one leading into the next. Stories I had never heard. A version of my father I had never met. It was a magical few hours together, and when I edited that footage into a film, I understood something that has driven me ever since: this shouldn't be rare.
Every family has those stories. Most of them are never asked for, never recorded, and eventually they leave with the people who carry them. The window is always shorter than we think.
L36 exists to close the gap between what professional filmmaking can do and who gets to have it. For those who want the complete experience, our full production team does what we did for LOVE | EVOL(ved) — a director, a crew, a cinematic documentary of a life or a legacy. And for families who want the craft without the crew, we built a way to capture the conversation yourselves, guided every step, and let our editors — genuinely world-class editors — turn it into a film you'll keep forever.
Two paths. One belief: that the moments are the gift, and the stories are how we return to them.
